Overview:
The General Manager's principal mandate is to oversee the day-to-day running of the club and clubhouse, ensuring every element functions as a team. This includes:-
Bringing together all facets of the facility so everyone is informed about club activities and schedules.
Increasing the number of visiting parties and groups.
Growing membership numbers across all categories, while retaining existing members.
Resolving operational issues, from staffing and stock orders to maintenance and cleaning of the clubhouse.
Serving as the face of the club, responsible for staff punctuality, presentation, and work ethic.

Location: Skipton, North Yorkshire

Salary: £40,000 plus incentive bonuses
Job Summary
As General Manager of Skipton Golf Club, you will lead the day-to-day management of all club operations. Responsible to the Board of Directors, you will implement the club’s strategic vision, ensure the highest standards of service, and oversee a dedicated team. Your leadership will support the club’s ongoing growth and ensure a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for members and guests.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and execute the club’s business and development plan in line with the Board’s strategic objectives.
· Deliver exceptional member and guest experiences through outstanding customer service and attention to detail.
· Manage the club’s financial performance, including budgeting, reporting, and cost control.
· Oversee the golf course, clubhouse, catering, bar, and all club facilities, ensuring high standards of maintenance and presentation.
· Lead, motivate, and support staff across all departments, fostering a positive team culture.
· Grow and sustain club membership through marketing initiatives, community engagement, and excellent communication.
· Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety, legal, and governance requirements.
· Liaise with members, committees, and external partners to maintain positive relationships and promote club values.
· Organise, support, and promote club competitions, events, and social activities.
· Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation across club operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
· Proven management experience, ideally in a private members’ golf club or hospitality/leisure setting.
· Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
· Demonstrated financial acumen, including budgeting and commercial decision-making.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational abilities.
· Customer-focused approach with a passion for delivering service excellence.
· Knowledge of golf club governance, best practices, and membership engagement.
· Proficient in IT and club management systems.
· Flexible, proactive, and results-oriented attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
· Relevant qualification in club management, hospitality, business, or similar field.
· Experience working with committees and volunteer boards.
· Knowledge of golf operations and R&A/England Golf regulations.
· Marketing and membership development experience.
· First Aid and Health & Safety training.
