The role of Deputy General Manager offers a rare & unique opportunity for an energetic and outgoing individual to take up a leadership role at the heart of one of Kent’s premier parkland golf clubs.
The role supports the General Manager with the day-to-day operations at the Club and deputises in their absence. The successful candidate will also look after all society and function business and liaise closely with the other key departments in the Club.
Summary of Role:
This is an important appointment for the Club and the successful candidate will be a self-motivated and driven candidate, with strong interpersonal and management skills. Commitment to the on-time delivery in all aspects of the Club’s business is also essential. A proven track record in a similar customer facing role within golf is essential. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have excellent organisational skills, coupled with the ability to work well on their own initiative, as well as, within a team environment. Particular expertise in the oversight of a golf club’s F&B area will be considered an advantage.
Key responsibilities will include the following:
- Deputise for the GM as required – in both internal and external areas of GM responsibility.
- Overall responsibility for serving the needs of members and visitors – receiving and handling personal, email and telephone-based enquiries.
- The efficient handling of member communications.
- Assisting with the organisation of Committee meetings, AGMs and EGMs, as well as minute taking.
- Delivery of inter-departmental coordination on a day-to-day basis and through the running of weekly management meetings
- Working with the House Manager / Head Professional to deliver and develop the club’s F&B / Golf operations service offering to members and visitors alike.
- Co-ordination of the Club’s sales and marketing activity
- The condition and the maintenance of the clubhouse infrastructure – including all staff accommodation & Pro-shop
- The club’s Health & Safety protocols and practices
The Candidate:
The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years management experience gained in the golfing industry. They must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the game of golf, it’s competitive formats and traditions within a private members club. We are looking for someone with drive, enthusiasm and passion willing to work flexible hours including weekends.
- Experience within a Golf Facility providing a high level of service with supervisory experience preferred.
- Enthusiastic, polite and approachable; always looking to exceed expectations.
- Experience of basic agronomics and course presentation within a Private Members Club.
- Modern day communication skills and computer literacy with experience of Golf Specific software solutions.
- Strives for excellence and attention to detail at all times.
- Offers the highest possible standards of integrity and diplomacy, common sense and a good sense of humour.
- Passion for Golf and in-depth knowledge of the golf industry, the history of the game and etiquette.

Salary: The salary will be negotiable but commensurate with the position and the overall package will include: share in staff fund distributed annually, pension fund, meals on duty, Ongoing CDP support with GCMA/CMAE.
Hours: Hours vary although generally will be any 5 days from Monday to Sunday, 8.30am to 5.30pm and occasional evening meetings. There is a standard ½ hour (unpaid) break for lunch which is provided free of charge.
Holidays: 4 weeks plus 8 Statutory Days.
