The PGA Tour is considering allowing players to use rangefinders during competitive rounds.

Some believe this could modernise the game and help players with quicker decision-making, while others argue that it takes away from the skill of reading a course.

Notably, rangefinders are already allowed on the LIV Golf tour. In 2022, LIV Golf announced that players could use these devices during tournaments, provided that certain features, such as slope readings that calculate elevation changes, are disabled. This policy aligns with Rule 4.3a(1) of the USGA, which allows the use of distance-measuring devices for distance and direction but prohibits features that measure elevation changes or suggest club selection.
