St Austell Golf Club is one of Cornwall’s premier parkland courses and is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Club Manager to oversee its operations and uphold the Club’s reputation for excellence.
About the Club: Founded in 1911 and originally designed by renowned architect James Braid, St Austell Golf Club boasts a picturesque location in the heart of Cornwall. The course provides stunning panoramic views and is regarded as a true gem of Cornwall’s golf scene.
The Role: The Club Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the club, delivering high-quality service to members, visitors, and staff. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Committee to drive the Club’s operational, financial, and strategic objectives, ensuring the best experience for all.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and inspiring a team, including the Head Greenkeeper and Clubhouse staff.
- Managing operational aspects of the Club, ensuring smooth operations across all departments.
- Working with the Executive and Operations Committees, as well as volunteer postholders specializing in areas like competitions, finance and marketing.
The Candidate: We are looking for a candidate with strong leadership and management skills, including:
- Proven experience in managing multi-disciplined teams.
- A track record of business development and revenue growth.
- Sound financial and commercial acumen, with experience in budgeting and cost management.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Strong IT skills (MS Office) and a good understanding of relevant legal frameworks (e.g., licensing, employment law, health and safety).
Desirable Experience:
- An appreciation of golf and the traditions of a members’ club.
- Experience with social media and a willingness to undertake relevant industry training.
- Knowledge of the Rules of Golf and the World Handicap System.
- Experience with Xero accounting software and strong negotiation skills.
