The Club:
Horsforth Golf Club was established in 1906 and was designed by the renowned golf architect Dr Alistair McKenzie. The Club’s 18-hole course is situated in North Leeds, near to Leeds & Bradford Airport with some fantastic views across the Aire Valley.
A thriving Members’ Club, with over 500 members, we are an active club both on and off the golf course with a full diary of internal events as well as a busy hospitality offering to the local community.
Over recent years there has been considerable investment both on and off the golf course with a full bunker renovation project, significant primary drainage as well as several other large-scale on-course projects. Our fantastic new practice range opened in 2023 that offers members some of the very best practice facilities in the area. The club has also recently opened a state-of-the-art indoor golf studio which allows all year-round golf.
The Club Council (The Committee) will work closely with the General Manager to develop and deliver the Club’s rolling five-year strategic plan.
The General Manager will have the following posts: Head Greenkeeper, House Manager, Administrative Staff, Clubhouse personnel, including Cooks reporting to them directly.
The Opportunity
The Club is looking for an experienced General Manager (GM) who will have responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of the Club.
Reporting to the Club President, the successful candidate will work closely with the Clubs Council to determine, prioritise and deliver on the strategic aims of the Club. The GM will lead a committed team of individuals whose aim is to provide the highest standards of service to the Club membership, visitors and hospitality guests.
Executive responsibility and accountability for all aspects of the management of the Club, the Course, and its premises within the framework of the Club’s policies, procedures, and approved budgets.
Delivery of appropriate Management information, providing monthly updates to the Council and the wider membership.
Achieving high standards of performance from all staff by inspiring and motivating the teams, which will include regular performance reviews.
Bringing industry best practice to all areas of the Club’s activities, playing a key role in delivering the Club’s key operational, financial, and strategic goals.
The Role
Day to Day responsibilities include:
- The welfare, management and leadership of a multi-disciplinary team which includes the Head Greenkeeper, House Manager and administrative staff.
- Supporting the Club’s retained PGA Professionals.
- Responsibility for internal and external communications, including marketing and promotion of the Club across social media platforms.
- Monitoring and management of budgets and financial reporting and ensuring fiscal targets are achieved.
- Ensuring compliance in all statutory, legal and health and safety matters.
The Candidate
- A strong and demonstrable track record of management and leadership within the sports / hospitality sector, and preferably a good understanding of the expectations and traditions of a members’ club.
- Be able to demonstrate an outstanding ability to communicate and relate to people of all backgrounds, with a real appreciation of golf and its traditions within the ethos of a private members’ club.
- Experience of balancing the needs of different groups of people and the needs of the members, committees and staff.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience of growing revenue streams whilst controlling costs backed up by a sound understanding of finance and budgeting
