The General Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring Charnwood Forest Golf Club operates smoothly on a day-to-day basis while driving development in line with the Club’s Strategic Plan. A key responsibility is to deliver an outstanding experience for all members and visitors, maintaining the club’s reputation for quality and hospitality. The role spans all aspects of club management, requiring strong leadership and a commitment to both operational excellence and long-term growth.
The successful candidate will lead and inspire our team, providing oversight of the Food and Beverage concession and ensuring high standards across all areas of service. They will bring proven experience in the operational, administrative, and managerial responsibilities associated with running a private members’ club, alongside excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.

Recruiting for a General Manager
Charnwood Forest Golf Club is a members’ club set on the picturesque slopes of the charming Charnwood Forest, located within a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest near Loughborough. The club offers a welcoming environment where members and visitors can enjoy developing their game, making new friends, and relaxing in the comfortable Clubhouse Bar. With its scenic setting and strong community spirit, the club provides both an enjoyable sporting challenge and a warm social hub.
Charnwood Forest Golf Club is committed to continual development to uphold its strong reputation and standing in the local area. To support this ambition, we are seeking to appoint a new General Manager, reporting directly to the Chair of the Board of Directors.
Package and Benefits:
- Salary £40,000 to £45,000 pa.
- Contracted hours 37.5 per week.

The role spans all aspects of club management, requiring strong leadership and a commitment to both operational excellence and long-term growth.

They will bring proven experience in the operational, administrative, and managerial responsibilities associated with running a private members’ club, alongside excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the management and administration of the club, supporting the Board of Directors in delivering the Club’s Strategic Plan, including monitoring and evaluating progress.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including Club employees and onsite contractors, to achieve the Club’s strategic ambitions.
- Ensure all administrative duties are completed efficiently, keeping Club operations lean and agile.
- Contribute to long-term strategic development and report regularly to the Board on progress against the plan.
- Collaborate with Working Groups and Sub-Committees to shape and align their operational plans with strategic objectives.
- Develop, implement, and manage Operational Plans outlining activities, schedules, and deliverables.
- Manage relationships with external partners and oversee all membership and marketing communications.
- Work with the Club Bookkeeper to manage the P&L, ensuring sound financial management.
- Plan and coordinate members’ competitions and annual event calendars in conjunction with the Competitions & Handicaps Committee.
- Act as the primary point of contact for members and visitors, focusing on membership growth, retention, and increasing golf-related income.
About You:
- You will live within an hour’s commute of the Club, or be happy to relocate, so you can be part of the local community we serve.
- You bring at least three years’ management experience in hospitality, with a record of accomplishment of delivering excellent service and operational results.
- Play golf or demonstrate a strong personal interest in the sport.
- Understand and accept the requirement to work some weekends as part of the role.
- You are a confident communicator who is comfortable with modern IT systems and using them to keep things running smoothly.
- Whether you are a seasoned manager or looking for your first General Manager appointment, you have the drive, adaptability, and vision to lead our Club into its next chapter.
