About Drumpellier
Established in 1894 and designed by Willie Fernie, Drumpellier Golf Club is one of Lanarkshire’s most prestigious and popular courses. Situated in the west end of Coatbridge, just eight miles east of Glasgow, the Club has a proud heritage, a vibrant and engaged membership of around 800 golfers, and currently operates a membership waiting list. Recent investment includes the introduction of five robot mowers, supporting a modern and efficient approach to course maintenance. We are seeking an experienced, progressive Head Greenkeeper to lead our Greenkeeping team and present the course to consistently outstanding standards.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead, plan and deliver all course maintenance and development activities. This is a hands-on leadership role for a modern turf professional with excellent people, planning and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, schedule and supervise all turf maintenance, renovation and improvement programmes, including winter projects.
• Present the golf course and practice areas to first-class standards every day (greens, tees, fairways, surrounds, bunkers, set-up and course marking).
• Manage and optimise the irrigation system; implement integrated control of weeds, pests and turf diseases.
• Lead, develop and motivate the Greenkeeping team; set standards, schedule rotas and champion professionalism and teamwork.
• Work closely with our agronomist at STRI to deliver a consistent, sustainable approach to course conditioning and long-term turf health.
• Integrate and utilise our robot mowers effectively within the maintenance programme.
• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, environmental best practice and Club policies; maintain risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Manage machinery care in partnership with service providers; keep accurate maintenance and asset records.
• Work collaboratively with Club leadership on course planning, budgeting and reporting; provide clear, proactive updates.
• Maintain accurate records of course works, inputs and resources.
About You
• Minimum NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Greenkeeping, Turf Science or Sports Turf Management.
• PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates.
• Full UK driving licence.
• At least five years’ relevant experience, including team leadership or supervisory responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of modern greenkeeping practices, agronomy and machinery operation.
• Confidence working with modern turf technology, including automated and robotic systems.
• Excellent leadership, organisation and communication skills; calm and adaptable with early starts, weekends and public holidays as required.
