Hatton clinches historic third Alfred Dunhill title at St Andrews

October 06, 2024

Tyrrell Hatton made history at St Andrews by winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship for the third time, setting a new record for the event. After an impressive 61 on Saturday, Hatton closed with a final round of 70 to finish at 24 under par, just one shot ahead of Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.

Although Hatton encountered late challenges, including a double bogey on the 13th and another dropped shot on the 14th, he managed to birdie the 18th and secure the win. Colsaerts, who had a chance to force a playoff, left his eagle putt short and missed the following birdie attempt.

Hatton expressed how special it was to win with his father, Jeff, present for the first time, especially at St Andrews, the Home of Golf. The victory also secured his place in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, and it means he can now attend Ryder Cup teammate Matt Fitzpatrick’s wedding, which had been in doubt due to scheduling conflicts.

In the team event, Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen and Irish businessman Dermot Desmond claimed victory, finishing at 48 under par, two shots ahead of Hatton and his father.
