November 17, 2024
Heading into the tournament, McIlroy needed only a top-11 finish to claim the season-long crown, with Thriston Lawrence being the only rival capable of surpassing him with a win. However, Lawrence's mid-table finish left McIlroy unchallenged for the title.
Starting the final day tied for the lead with Højgaard and Antoine Rozner, McIlroy found himself locked in a head-to-head duel with Højgaard. The pair remained tied at 13-under on the back nine after McIlroy dropped a shot on the 13th hole. A missed birdie chance on the 14th kept the tension high, but a brilliant approach shot on the 15th set up a simple birdie, giving McIlroy the outright lead.
He maintained the advantage with a steady performance over the closing holes. On the par-5 18th, McIlroy sealed his victory with another birdie, finishing at 15-under and two shots clear of Højgaard.
Shane Lowry delivered an impressive late push, highlighted by a stunning chip on the 17th and a birdie on the final hole, finishing at 11-under. His efforts earned him a share of third place alongside Antoine Rozner and Adam Scott.
Tom McKibbin, who started the day tied for seventh, had a mixed final round. He recorded three birdies and three bogeys to finish with a two-under-par 70, placing him at eight-under and tied for 11th.
