Ryder Cup 2025: Friday Morning Foursomes Pairings
September 25, 2025
Match 1 – 12:10 pm BST
Bryson DeChambeau & Justin Thomas (USA) v Jon Rahm & Tyrrell Hatton (Europe)
Two of America’s most animated players, DeChambeau and Thomas, will partner for the first time. Between them they have a combined foursomes record of two wins and five defeats, though Thomas brings valuable experience with 13 Ryder Cup matches under his belt.
On the European side, Rahm and Hatton are reunited after their perfect 2–0 record in Rome two years ago. The pair also shared a half at Whistling Straits, and have quickly developed into one of Europe’s most dependable partnerships.
There is also a personal subplot. Thomas and Hatton will meet in a Ryder Cup for the fourth time, with Thomas holding the edge after wins in Paris and Wisconsin, while their singles clash in Rome ended level. Rahm and Thomas also have history, having split their previous two encounters.
Match 2 – 12:26 pm BST
Scottie Scheffler & Russell Henley (USA) v Ludvig Åberg & Matt Fitzpatrick (Europe)
World number one Scheffler teams up with Ryder Cup debutant Russell Henley. It is a new combination for the Americans and a chance for Scheffler to earn his first victory in the foursomes format.
Europe counters with Åberg and Fitzpatrick. The young Swede was sensational on debut in Rome, winning twice alongside Viktor Hovland, including a record 9&7 triumph over Scheffler and Brooks Koepka. This time he partners Fitzpatrick, who is still seeking his first point in a foursomes match. Both pairings are new, and both will feel they have something to prove.
Match 3 – 12:42 pm BST
Collin Morikawa & Harris English (USA) v Rory McIlroy & Tommy Fleetwood (Europe)
Morikawa and English have not played together before, though Morikawa arrives with a positive record in foursomes from his two previous appearances. English, who featured at Whistling Straits, makes his debut in this format.
Europe sends out one of its most trusted combinations. McIlroy and Fleetwood went unbeaten in Rome, winning twice in the foursomes. Fleetwood’s personal record in this format is flawless at four wins from four. McIlroy knows both Americans well, having beaten Morikawa in Paris but losing to English in Wisconsin. This match has all the makings of a heavyweight clash.
Match 4 – 12:58 pm BST
Xander Schauffele & Patrick Cantlay (USA) v Robert MacIntyre & Viktor Hovland (Europe)
Schauffele and Cantlay anchor the session for the United States. They have played four times together across the last two Ryder Cups, winning two and losing two. Their familiarity and consistency make them one of America’s strongest partnerships.
MacIntyre, one of the breakout performers in Rome, plays his first Ryder Cup foursomes. He is joined by Hovland, who was part of the record-breaking Scandinavian duo with Åberg two years ago. The only previous Ryder Cup meeting among these four came in Paris when Cantlay and Thomas halved a fourball with Hovland and Fleetwood.
The foursomes format
In foursomes, each pairing plays a single ball and takes alternate shots until the hole is completed. It is a demanding format that rewards accuracy, teamwork and trust. Every mistake is magnified, while every clutch putt can swing momentum.
Pairings for the afternoon fourballs will be released once the morning session concludes.
