Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Greenkeeper to join its experienced team in maintaining one of the South West’s most traditional links courses. The role involves carrying out routine course maintenance, supporting improvement projects, and using modern turf care equipment to uphold the club’s high presentation standards. Ideal candidates will have experience in greenkeeping, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude toward learning and professional development.
Description:
Weston-super-Mare Golf Club is a Links course established in 1892 and comprises of 6,169 yards of golfing experience. It was redesigned by Dr Alister MacKenzie and is as you would expect a well-established mature links course, regarded as one of the most traditional links courses in the southwest. The course is renowned for its superb greens and rolling fairways with views that stretch across the Bristol Channel towards Wales.
A position has arisen at Weston-super-Mare Golf Club, for someone to join our experienced team of greenkeepers. Applications are invited from those who have previous experience and are looking for an opportunity to gain more experience and qualifications.
The Role:
- Routine maintenance and presentation of all playing surfaces & bunkers as directed by the Course Management team.
- Supporting the club’s advancement and ongoing improvement of the golf course through various projects and sustainable greenkeeping techniques.
- Applicants will be required to use a wide range of modern greenkeeping equipment.
- Average 40 - hour week to include weekends rota basis.
- Flexibility needed to work varied hours such as earlier starts for competitions/events as required (10-15 events per year).
Desirable Skills:
- Obtained or working towards NVQ in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent qualification).
- Previous experience as part of a greenkeeping team.
- Qualified CS30 & CS31 chainsaw operator (desirable not necessary).
- PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certification (desirable not necessary).
- Knowledge and ability to complete tasks in line with any health & safety regulations and practices, and ideally first aid trained.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when required.
- Familiar with a range of greenkeeping machinery and operations.
- Attention to detail and proactive in delivering high standards of course presentation.
