After 39 years, our current Course Manager is retiring and Gourock Golf Club is seeking a dynamic and experienced replacement to lead the greenkeeping team into the next phase of our journey.
Established in 1896 and situated above the picturesque town of Gourock, the Braid/Cotton designed golf course's moorland layout boasts spectacular views over the River Clyde and the Argyllshire hills from every hole.

Main Purpose:
To manage the maintenance of the golf course ensuring that it is presented to a high standard and in the best possible condition for members and visitors.
Strategic Aims:
- Develop and manage the Course Maintenance Policy
- Implement the Course Development Plan
- Develop an Ecology and environment plan
- Develop and implement a training plan for the greenkeeping team
- Participate and contribute to the greens committee
- Ensure KPI’s for department are achieved
- Propose and develop opportunities for the club
- Develop and provide awareness sessions on greens maintenance for club members
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, organise and direct the maintenance of the golf course ensuring that all areas are always presented in the best possible condition
- Ensure that care is always taken to prevent any long-term damage to the course, for example, closure/opening of course in bad weather
- Maintain records of all greenkeeping activities; producing statistical information; preparation of reports for management and greens committee.
- Plan, forecast and report on performance against budget
- Maintain high standards of customer care at all times
- Understand the club’s policy on Health and Safety and ensure that all duties performed are carried out with full regard to the safety of members, visitors, contractors and other team members; work within the Health & Safety, COSHH, Risk Assessment and HAVS Assessment guidelines always.
- Manage the efficient and effective operation and safe handling of all chemicals used by the greenkeeping team. Ensure that all team members are trained in the usage of such chemicals

- Manage, train and develop direct team members according to club policy and procedures
- Undertake general greenkeeping duties as required
- Undertake ad-hoc projects and assignments as required
- Keep up to date with advances in new products, equipment and technology by various means such as attendance at various exhibitions, seminars, meetings, literature and internet
- Provide regular communications and presentations to members relating to the course
- Any other duties that may be required
Other Requirements:
- A good understanding of the game of golf including rules of play
- Willingness to work flexible hours including a weekend rota
- Work with and support other club personnel to develop a high standard of service for members and visitors
- Carry out work in a safe manner and not endanger yourself or anyone else by acts or omissions
- Comply with the club’s health and safety policy as it relates to your work activities, and to take appropriate action in case of an emergency
- Promote high levels of customer service in everything
- Work towards continuous improvement, be adaptable to change, and be willing to acquire new skills and knowledge as applicable to the needs of the role
- Engage with our commitment to sustainability to reduce our waste, energy consumption and carbon footprint
Person Specification:
Education & Qualifications
- SVQ/NVQ 3 or HNC in Sports Turf Maintenance or equivalent (Essential)
- PA1, PA2 & PA6 and a good depth of spraying experience (Essential)
- Level 4 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent (Desirable)
- D32/33 or A1 Assessor (Desirable)
- First Aid Certificate (Desirable)
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior greenkeeping position (Essential)
- Experience of dealing successfully with members and visitors (Essential)
- A record of managing a small team and be able to demonstrate the ability to delegate and monitor effectively (Desirable)
