Description:

Established in 1889, set amidst an inspiring and truly unique landscape, the championship courses at Moray Golf Club offers the challenge of an authentic links, with rolling fairways, fast greens, revetted bunkers, and arguably the finest closing hole in Scotland. It remains an archetype of Scottish golf culture.

Moray Old is a great links course.  Laid out by Tom Morris, challenging but fair, it is in superb condition. It has character, heritage, and a secure sense of place. Moray New, created by Sir Henry Cotton in the 1960s, offers the same conditions, but with perhaps tighter greens.  What makes both truly special for members and visitors is that Moray is a thriving members club, not a holiday resort or visitor attraction. It wasn’t built for profit, it was built to be played.

MGC is a members’ club and firmly intends to remain so. Our actions are driven by a desire to offer members great golf, at a reasonable cost.

However, Moray GC faces three significant long-term challenges;

- Our membership profile is ageing and our membership revenues static.
- The club is becoming increasingly expensive to run, given the pressures of climate change and increasing ongoing maintenance costs, though benefitting from recent heavy investment in irrigation and water storage
- Competition; we face spiraling investment from ‘big brand’ and ‘resort’ clubs.

Our task over the next decade is clear - to ensure that members’ fees are not driven to levels that some will find unaffordable, we must carefully manage our costs, and grow visitor revenues.

The good news is that we believe the club to be underperforming. Meaning that improvements to management and marketing will significantly accelerate revenue growth, achieve the club’s goals and yet retain our cherished freedoms.

Links golf on the North East Scottish coast is a thriving and growing visitor attraction - with ‘big brand’ traditional courses, and incoming US Investors driving this growth. Yet far from being overwhelmed, Moray Golf Club sits in a unique and attractive market position. It retains, almost untouched, the quality, heritage and character created by the wealthy Victorian distillers, lawyers and industrialists who founded and funded it in 1889. These characteristics attracted Old Tom to design it, and the likes of JH Taylor, James Braid, Harry Vardon, and Fred Daly to play it. It also retains a thriving Victorian era clubhouse, with members who’ll happily welcome guests to a dram and a story.

What better place for a travelling golfer to fulfill their dream of finding the true Scottish links experience? Not a golfing theme park, not as one in a queue of visitors, but real golf alongside real members. In the heart of whisky country, too

Most exciting of all, with two superb links, Moray has ample capacity to both grow visitor numbers and satisfy the needs of members.

Moray seeks a general manager to take on the challenge of achieving this potential. It is a career defining opportunity for someone prepared to roll up their sleeves and drive change, working with a team of committed professionals and volunteers.

This is also an opportunity to live and work in a beautiful landscape. To witness ever-changing views across the Moray Firth to Sutherland, Caithness and, on a clear day, the Torridons on the far west coast. Moray is a wonderful place to live, with quality housing at reasonable cost, good schools and the vast, wild, family playground of the Scottish Highlands to explore.
