Overview:

Following a Club management restructure, we are seeking a forward-thinking Full-time Course Manager to lead the greenkeeping team and oversee all aspects of course presentation, preparation and playability to meet the expectations of members and guests to the club. This role will be a key figure within the club’s management structure and will report to the club’s General Manager and Greens Committee.  

The incoming Course Manager will take a strategic role in course development and long-term maintenance planning. This will include managing and executing ongoing and future investment projects. This is a hands on role and will invove working on the course as part of the greens team.

Tenby Golf Club was established in 1888 and is recognised as the oldest golf club in Wales. The Club holds a distinctive place in the history of Welsh golf. This remarkable course, conceived by the renowned James Braid, a five-time British Open Champion is set among a patchwork of rolling green terrain and wild dunes. Tenby boasts a classic 18-hole links course and a variety of challenges that tests golfers at every level. Tenby is regularly chosen to host National Championships and provides the perfect place for all year-round golf.

Job Description:

Following a Club management restructure, we are seeking a forward-thinking Full-time Course Manager to lead the greenkeeping team and oversee all aspects of course presentation, preparation and playability to meet the expectations of members and guests to the club. This role will be a key figure within the club’s management structure and will report to the club’s General Manager and Greens Committee.  

The incoming Course Manager will take a strategic role in course development and long-term maintenance planning. This will include managing and executing ongoing and future investment projects. This is a hands on role and will invove working on the course as part of the greens team.

Key Responsibilities:

- Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of greenkeepers, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Budgeting: Responsible for the preparation and monitoring of the operational budget through strong turf and course management.
- Maintenance Planning: Create and deliver effective course maintenance and preparation schedules.
- Machinery Management: Operate and maintain machinery to the highest safety and performance standards.
Course Development: Collaborate with Greens Committee on long term improvement plans.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all Health and Safety and Environmental regulations are met within the greenkeeping department and golf course.
- Course Monitoring: Adapt Maintenance to weather, seasons and play demands.
Staff Mentoring: Support and upskill team members through structured development plans.
- Communication: Maintain clear, professional communication with management, staff, pro shop and the membership.
- Liaise: Meet regularly with management and Greens Chair and Greens Committee to ensure the course is prepared accurately alongside a busy and competitive club diary.

What we’re looking for:

- Current supervisory/management role (Deputy or similar)
- Minimum 5 years experience in high quality golf course maintenance.
- Ability to work in a team and solely.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- High personal standards, strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent higher qualification.
- PA1, PA2 and PA6a spraying certification.
- Chainsaw Certification (desirable)
