The Club:
Clarendon Executive is delighted to have the opportunity to support Royal County Down Golf Club with the appointment of its new General Manager. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne, Royal County Down Golf Club continues to thrive. The Championship Links Course, rated by Golf Digest as the No. 1 golf course in the world outside the USA, is regularly listed among the top five courses globally.
For over 130 years, the members’ focus on being best in class and their commitment to constant investment in the courses and facilities has created this iconic club. The Club is forward-thinking and progressive, with exciting further development plans.
Behind the scenes, a great deal of work is involved in orchestrating and managing the day-to-day operations of the Club, which ultimately rests with the General Manager. The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Club’s operations, delivering exceptional service, and upholding its global reputation.
The Role:
This role requires an assured and visible leader who can manage and inspire a multidisciplinary team, navigate relationships with members, guests, and external partners, and oversee a range of service improvement initiatives and capital investment projects. It requires at least five years experience in a senior or general management role, a strong understanding of high-end service delivery, financial acumen, resource and project management skills, with the capability to execute strategies.
Responsibilities
The GM’s key responsibilities are to:
· Ensure the courses are maintained and presented to the highest standards
· Provide exceptional experiences (both in service and facilities) to members and visitors
· Build and maintain strong relationships with members and all other stakeholders
· Protect and enhance the club’s status in the world of golf
· Oversee the financial performance of the club
· Co-ordinate all member related activities
· Oversee the commercial operations of the club
· Act as Secretary to the council and provide support as required
· Ensure the club complies with all relevant legislation
· Manage relationships with The Royal County Down Ladies Golf Club and Morne Golf Club
Structure
Reporting primarily to the Honorary Secretary, but also the Captain and Honorary Treasurer, the GM will be supported by department heads and their staff as follows:
· Course and Greenkeeping
· Clubhouse (including F&B)
· Finance
· Golf Operations (including the professional shop)
· General Administration (including membership and commercial support)
Key Skills & Knowledge
· Administration - proficiency in overseeing operations, optimising processes and project management
· Management - strong staff management skills and ability to make effective use of resources
· Communications - Effective verbal and written communication and ability to build relationships
· Legal and regulatory compliance – proficient across all corporate functions (esp. HR and H&S)
· Financial Acumen – good understanding of financial principles, including setting budgets and reporting
· Golf Industry – understanding of golf operations, course management, etiquette and industry trends
