Greens Manager (Convenor)

Responsible For:

Ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course so that it exceeds the expectations of members, guests & visitors.

Salary:

Hours:

39 Hours Average (Annulized Hours)

Background:

The successful candidate will lead or be part of a greenkeeping staff. The role is permanent and full time.

Main Duties And Responsibilities:

- Always maintain a professional and welcoming approach when dealing with members, guests & visitors
- Manage the golf course and greenkeeping team, as directed by the Committee in accordance with the golf club’s course maintenance policy, the health and safety policy and the greenkeepers code of conduct
- Carry out effective turf maintenance through the establishment of schedules and programmes of annual, monthly, weekly, and daily maintenance, which optimise efficiency at the course
- Ensure the course is prepared for play including marking hazards, grounds for repair and ensuring tee markers, bunkers, golf furniture and general maintenance is carried out
- Manage the preparation of machines for use
- Manage the maintenance of machines
- Maintain drainage systems
- Plan and manage the control of weeds, pests, and disease
- Maintain appropriate level of supplies ensuring safe and effective control of all stored materials and ground maintenance products
- Allocate work rotas and supervise greenkeeping staff
- Communicate effectively with and supervise members of the greenkeeping staff ensuring all works are carried out in a safe manner
- Be responsible for the Company obligations in respect of COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health)
- An understanding of the health & safety at work act and be responsible for implementation of the Company health and safety policies in respect of green keeping operations
- Comply with company policies, rules, and procedures at all times
- Work as part of a team and actively demonstrate a willingness to support and achieve the overall business objectives
- Ensure golf club refuse is managed in accordance with waste regulations
- Ensure that all premises are safely secured and locked prior to leaving
- Have a thorough understanding of club theft prevention procedures

Essential Skills:

- Proven experience of working within a team and managing people
- Qualified to Level 3 or higher in Sports Turf
- Spraying certificates essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Training staff
- Basic knowledge of golf course construction and irrigation systems
- Experience of Health & Safety systems management
- The ability to work in an efficient and effective manner and prioritise work schedules
- Experience of the preparation and operation of greenkeeping machinery and equipment including basic fault finding and servicing requirements
- Ability to build and develop a team

Desirable Skills:

- Chainsaw certificate
