Daniel Brown triumphs at BMW International Open in emotional victory

July 07, 2025

Daniel Brown claimed his second DP World Tour title with a composed final round at the BMW International Open in Munich. The 30-year-old English golfer signed for a flawless round of 66 on Sunday to finish 22 under par, two shots ahead of fellow countryman Jordan Smith.

The final day at Golfclub München Eichenried belonged to Brown, who dedicated the win to a close friend who had recently passed away. Four birdies in the opening six holes gave him an early lead, and he never looked back. His steady approach and confident putting under pressure were key to keeping his challengers at bay.

Poise under pressure

With several contenders within touching distance, Brown held his nerve across the back nine. Smith applied pressure with a round of 67, and Kazuma Kobori of New Zealand posted the lowest score of the day with a 63. However, Brown maintained control throughout, closing with a birdie at the 18th that sparked an emotional reaction on the green.

This performance showed the maturity and patience of a player who has quietly developed into a consistent contender over the past two seasons.

Growing reputation

Brown first made headlines when he won the ISPS Handa World Invitational in 2023. Since then, he has become a regular name on the leaderboard, building a reputation for consistency and resilience.

With this latest victory, he now joins a strong list of English golfers who have lifted the BMW International Open trophy, including Lee Westwood and Matt Wallace. He is also expected to climb significantly in the Race to Dubai standings.

Support and reaction

Applause greeted Brown as he walked off the 18th green, overwhelmed by the occasion. Fellow players, caddies and fans showed their support, with many praising the way he handled the final round and the significance of his win.

Jordan Smith, who finished second for the second year running at this event, congratulated Brown and acknowledged his impressive play throughout the week.

Looking ahead

Brown is now expected to compete at the upcoming Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship. With form on his side and confidence growing, he will be considered a serious contender in both events.
