Luton Hoo’s golf course approved for Ryder Cup bid

September 02, 2024

Luton Hoo Hotel is one step closer to becoming a Ryder Cup host after gaining approval for its plan to build a “championship-level golf course.”

The Arora Group, the hotel’s owner, revealed it is collaborating with leading designers to create the new course.

Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa hopes to host the Ryder Cup in either 2031 or 2035, with the Arora Group describing this goal as a “realistic ambition.” The approved plans involve upgrading and expanding the existing golf course, in addition to constructing a new clubhouse and office facilities. The current 18-hole course will be replaced by a new “championship-level” layout designed to meet Ryder Cup standards.

Chairman Surinder Arora highlighted that hosting the Ryder Cup could bring “hundreds of millions” in revenue to the local Luton economy and help “put Luton and Bedfordshire on the map.”

The Ryder Cup was last held in England in 2002, at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield.
