Jacques Kruyswijk claims maiden DP World Tour title at the 2025 Magical Kenya Open

February 24, 2025

South African golfer Jacques Kruyswijk secured his first DP World Tour victory by winning the 2025 Magical Kenya Open presented by Absa, finishing two shots ahead of in-form rival John Parry.

Kruyswijk delivered an impressive final round, carding four birdies for a superb 67, taking him to 18 under par. His flawless performance over the weekend, without a single bogey, made him only the second South African to win this event since its inclusion in the DP World Tour’s Global Schedule.

The 32-year-old began the final round with a narrow one-shot lead but briefly found himself trailing after Parry made consecutive birdies on the fourth and fifth holes to take the lead. However, Kruyswijk quickly regained momentum, sinking long birdie putts on the sixth and seventh holes to reclaim a one-shot advantage at the turn.

A sharp bunker shot on the tenth set him up for another birdie, extending his lead to two shots. Parry responded with a birdie on the 12th to close the gap, but Kruyswijk maintained composure, consistently giving himself birdie opportunities while confidently securing his par putts.

Parry’s challenge faltered on the 14th when an inaccurate tee shot led to a bogey, giving Kruyswijk breathing room. The South African capitalized with a crucial long-range birdie on the 16th, increasing his lead to three strokes. He then safely parred the final two holes to seal his maiden DP World Tour title.

Parry finished solo second at 16 under, maintaining an impressive start to the season with a victory and two runner-up finishes from three African tournaments. Fellow South African Deon Germishuys secured third place, three shots behind Parry, while Jayden Schaper finished fourth.

Kruyswijk had to show resilience early on, saving par with a ten-foot putt on the third hole to protect his slim lead. After briefly falling behind, he responded with a composed birdie on the sixth and followed it up with another on the seventh to move ahead once more.

A birdie at the tenth gave him a two-shot cushion, though Parry continued to apply pressure with his own birdie on the 12th. But a bogey from Parry on the 14th, combined with Kruyswijk’s excellent 18-foot birdie on the 16th, all but sealed the victory.

Reflecting on his win, Kruyswijk said: "It's special. I'm a little bit lost for words but this is for my family back home, my friends, my team and this is for South Africa. I'm happy that I can keep the trophy on African soil and obviously bring it back to South Africa. It makes me very proud."

He added: "I'm super proud of myself with the mindset I've had this week and the way I've played this golf course. What can I say? I'm happy. The Investec South African Open Championship is special for all of us South Africans and I'm super excited to be there next week as a winner. I'm pumped to get home."

Kruyswijk also praised the Kenyan crowd for their support: "Unbelievable. The people here have been fantastic. You can see them supporting me, they've been out here in their numbers today so I can't be thankful enough. I'll thank them properly a little bit later but it's been awesome."

Meanwhile, Parry reflected positively on his performance: "I'm very happy with my week. Obviously it didn't go the way I wanted it today but I played as good as I could, I tried to push him as hard as I could, he just played better on the day really."
