Min Woo Lee secures maiden PGA Tour victory at Houston Open
March 31, 2025
The final day proved anything but comfortable for Lee. Despite a confident start, he found trouble on the par-5 16th when his tee shot landed in the water, leading to a bogey that cut his lead to a single stroke. Meanwhile, Woodland surged up the leaderboard with a superb round of 62, matching the course record, and Scheffler carded an impressive 63, putting both players firmly in contention.
Lee responded under pressure, closing with a round of 67 to finish at 20-under-par 260. His calm performance over the final two holes ensured a one-shot victory, sealing a significant moment in his professional career.
Beyond the individual success, the win marked a special achievement for the Lee family. With his sister Minjee Lee already an LPGA major winner, the pair now stand out as the first brother-sister duo to claim victories on their respective professional tours.
The tournament also marked a strong comeback for Woodland, who returned to top form after undergoing surgery for a brain tumour in 2023. His eagle on the 16th and consistent play throughout the week delivered his best finish on the PGA Tour in six years, underlining his determination and resilience.
Scheffler, looking to defend his title, made a spirited push on the back nine with a string of birdies, but fell just short of overtaking Lee. Despite a strong finish, the Australian’s early cushion and steady composure proved enough to keep the challengers at bay.
Lee’s victory earned him $1.71 million and 500 FedEx Cup points, lifting him to 16th in both the season standings and the money list. The event at Memorial Park Golf Course served as a perfect build-up to the Masters, which gets underway on 10 April.
Spectators witnessed a gripping finale, with the crowd rallying behind the young Australian as he held his nerve to clinch the title. The atmosphere reflected the significance of the moment and the promise of what lies ahead in Lee’s career.
Looking forward, Lee now heads to Augusta full of momentum and confidence. His win in Houston highlights his potential and positions him as one to watch as the golfing season continues to unfold.
