Novak and Griffin Celebrate First PGA Tour Wins at Zurich Classic

April 28, 2025

Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin captured their first PGA Tour victories on Sunday, winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with a composed display under pressure.

Navigating a second successive weather delay and the unpredictable Foursomes format, the pair stayed steady throughout the back nine. Their pivotal moment came at the penultimate hole, where Novak set up a 35-foot birdie opportunity, and Griffin converted it. Meanwhile, their closest challengers, Jake Knapp and Frankie Capan III, dropped a shot, giving Novak and Griffin a two-stroke swing at a crucial time.

Needing only a par at the final hole, Novak and Griffin completed the task, finishing on 28-under-par and edging out Denmark’s Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard by a single shot.

The win marked a significant personal achievement for both players. Novak, who narrowly missed out on a title at last week's RBC Heritage after a playoff loss, became the first player since 2022 to bounce back from playoff defeat and win the following week on the PGA Tour. Griffin’s journey was equally impressive, having returned to professional golf in 2021 after a period working outside the sport.

Their long-standing friendship, developed through junior golf and later strengthened while living in Sea Island, Georgia, added an extra dimension to their partnership. They had often discussed teaming up and their first opportunity together resulted in a memorable victory.

Since the Zurich Classic introduced the team format, they are only the second partnership to earn maiden PGA Tour wins at the event, following the example set by Davis Riley and Nick Hardy in 2023.

On a day when several leading teams faltered, Novak and Griffin’s steady play after the turn proved decisive. Notably, last year’s champions Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry slipped out of contention with a series of bogeys, eventually finishing tied for 12th.

The victory lifts Novak to sixth in the FedExCup standings, while Griffin’s strong form this season continues, following several top-10 finishes earlier in the year. Their success stands as a testament to perseverance, teamwork, and consistent improvement over recent seasons.
