Marco Penge wins in Madrid
October 13, 2025
Penge began the final round with a four-shot lead and looked to be in complete control after a brilliant third round had placed him comfortably at the top of the leaderboard. However, the final day proved far more challenging. Brown launched an impressive charge, closing with a round of 67 that included a crucial birdie on the final hole to tie the lead and force a playoff.
Both players returned to the 18th for the first extra hole. Under pressure, Penge held firm with an excellent approach and a steady finish to secure the title at fifteen under par, claiming his third DP World Tour victory of the season. Brown, who required treatment for a shoulder issue during the closing holes, fought admirably but narrowly missed out.
The win continues an outstanding year for the 27-year-old Englishman, who has already lifted trophies at the Hainan Classic and the Danish Golf Championship. His latest triumph not only adds another title to an already impressive season but also earns him exemptions into next year’s Masters and The Open Championship.
Penge’s consistency and resilience throughout the season have been key to his rise, and this victory in Madrid underlines his growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting emerging talents. His combination of distance off the tee and calm temperament under pressure proved decisive once again, and he now looks well placed for a strong finish in the Race to Dubai standings.
Dan Brown’s performance also deserves recognition. Despite physical discomfort and the mounting pressure of the final round, his determination and accuracy kept him firmly in contention until the very end. Meanwhile, Spanish favourite Jon Rahm delighted home fans with a closing round of 65 to climb into the top ten.
With confidence high and momentum on his side, Penge will look to carry this form into the final events of the season as he continues to establish himself among the top players on the DP World Tour.
