Before departing for a series of tournaments in Europe, Jon Rahm's wife, Kelley, relayed a special request from their oldest child, Kepa: "Please bring home a trophy.

Following a tie for 10th at LIV Golf Andalucía and a tie for 7th at the Open Championship, Rahm fulfilled his son’s request by winning the LIV Golf UK event at JCB on Sunday. The 29-year-old Spanish star not only claimed his first LIV Golf individual title but also led Legion XIII to its fourth team victory of the season.

"Knowing I’m bringing a trophy home for them feels good," said Rahm, who has one more tournament next week at the Olympics in his busy summer schedule.

This victory was eagerly anticipated since the two-time major winner joined the league last December. However, it was bittersweet as it came at the expense of his close friend and teammate, Tyrrell Hatton.

Playing in the group ahead of Hatton, Rahm completed a final-round 4-under 67, finishing at 13 under. Hatton, also at 13 under, found the green in two on the 18th hole but missed a par putt, preventing a playoff and leaving a subdued celebration for the team.

"Obviously, you always want to win," Rahm said after his first victory since the 2023 Masters. "But you don't want to see a teammate and good friend miss a putt for that to happen."

Hatton, who shot a final-round 69, expressed mixed emotions: “It’s kind of hard to put my own disappointment aside. Golf is generally an individual sport, and it’s tough to bogey the last in front of your home crowd to miss out on a playoff.”

Both Rahm and Hatton started the final round aiming to catch the 36-hole leader Andy Ogletree. Ogletree opened strong but stumbled with double bogeys, falling out of contention.

Paul Casey of Crushers GC and Joaquin Niemann of Torque GC were also in the hunt but faced their own setbacks. Cameron Smith of Ripper GC made a strong recovery from early bogeys to stay competitive.

Ultimately, it came down to Rahm and Hatton. Rahm's three-putt at the 17th opened the door for a potential playoff, but Hatton’s miss on the 18th sealed Rahm's victory.

“It’s been a fantastic week and a fantastic year, and just relieved that it happened,” Rahm said. “Feels like I got a lot of weight off my shoulders.”
