Scottie Scheffler wins the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow

May 18, 2025

Scottie Scheffler delivered a masterclass in composure and control to win his first PGA Championship title and third career major, finishing 11-under-par at Quail Hollow to secure a dominant five-shot victory.

The world number one overcame a nervous start in the final round, posting a two-over-par 38 on the front nine. He recovered well with birdies on the 10th and 14th holes, finishing with a level-par 71 that proved more than enough as his rivals fell away.

Jon Rahm briefly tied the lead midway through the round, but Quail Hollow’s challenging closing stretch proved costly. Known as the “Green Mile”, the final three holes derailed Rahm’s challenge as he dropped multiple shots, including a double bogey at the par-three 17th, and fell into a tie for eighth place.

Bryson DeChambeau, Davis Riley and Harris English shared second place at six-under-par, though none were able to apply sustained pressure during the closing holes. English produced the round of the day with a 65 to climb the leaderboard, but Scheffler’s lead was never seriously threatened once he regained control.

This victory marks Scheffler’s 15th PGA Tour title, placing him alongside some of the game’s greats who reached that milestone before the age of 29. Having already claimed two Masters titles in 2022 and 2024, he now stands halfway toward completing the career Grand Slam, with only the U.S. Open and The Open Championship remaining.

The win also represents a personal milestone for Scheffler, coming a year after a high-profile incident outside Valhalla at the 2024 PGA Championship. That situation has long been resolved, and his performance this week showed a player fully focused and at the peak of his powers.

Scheffler also took home a record $3.42 million as part of the PGA Championship’s largest-ever purse of $19 million. It was a fitting reward for a performance that reinforced his position as the most dominant player in the men’s game today.

Attention now turns to the U.S. Open at Oakmont next month, where Scheffler will aim to continue his pursuit of golfing history in what is already shaping up to be a standout year.
