Tom McKibbin wins Hong Kong Open by seven shots

November 03, 2025

Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin produced a commanding display of golf to capture the Link Hong Kong Open title, storming to victory by seven shots and setting a new tournament record at 27-under-par (253).

The 22-year-old from Holywood, following in the footsteps of fellow countryman Rory McIlroy, was in control from the very first round. Opening with a stunning 62, McKibbin followed it up with rounds of 64, 64, and 63, showing remarkable consistency on the tight and demanding Hong Kong Golf Club layout. His total of 253 broke the previous tournament record by five shots and matched one of the lowest totals ever recorded on the Asian Tour’s International Series.

This win marks the biggest achievement of McKibbin’s career so far and continues his steady progression since turning professional in 2021. Having already won on the DP World Tour in 2023 at the Porsche European Open, his triumph in Hong Kong underlines his ability to compete and win in different conditions against an international field.

The performance also secures McKibbin valuable world ranking points and guarantees him entries into both The Masters and The Open Championship in 2026, signalling his growing stature among Europe’s next generation of stars. With his calm composure and ball-striking precision, he never looked in danger of being caught as he closed out the event with a bogey-free final round.

The Hong Kong Open, one of Asia’s most historic events, continues to attract a strong field as part of the Asian Tour’s International Series, co-sanctioned with LIV Golf players. Big names such as Louis Oosthuizen, Peter Uihlein, and Anirban Lahiri were all in contention early on, but none could match McKibbin’s relentless scoring pace.

With this victory, McKibbin joins an illustrious list of former Hong Kong Open champions and strengthens his growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young players.
