UK & Ireland venues honoured at 15th Annual 59club Service Excellence Awards
March 16, 2025
59club’s prestigious awards are based on results from their impartial mystery shopping audits, which assess the experiences of guests, club members, and prospective members against 59club’s objective benchmarking criteria.
With 13 award categories celebrating excellence across management, sales, service, operations, retail, spa, golf course management, and food and beverage, 59club continues to honour the industry’s highest performers. The main individual awards are divided into three tiers, reflecting the venue’s average green fee rate.
Will Hewitt, General Manager of 59club UK, commented:
“It is essential to celebrate those who go above and beyond to provide outstanding experiences for their members and guests. With over 250 venues now working with 59club in this region, those nominated for an award really are some of the very best in our business and we are delighted to recognise their performance on this special night.”
The evening recognised some remarkable achievements, with Ballybunion retaining the title of Ultimate Members Club for the second consecutive year.
The Grove was named Ultimate Resort, with Joel Westwell winning Golf Manager of the Year, alongside his team, who took home Golf Operations Team of the Year.
Irish venues were well represented, with Eddie Devane and Martin Lehane from Mount Juliet winning F&B Manager of the Year and Greenkeeper of the Year respectively. John Dwyer of Royal Dublin was also recognised as Retail Manager of the Year.
Wales and the South West were also among the winners, with Paul Thomas (Newport GC) and Giuseppe Licata (Filton GC) receiving retail awards, while Mike Bush from St Mellion retained the Greenkeeping Team of the Year award.
Two outstanding individuals continued their reign at the top: Glen McNaughton (Long Ashton GC), who secured Food and Beverage Manager of the Year for the sixth consecutive year, and Matt Aplin (Goring & Streatley GC), who was named Greenkeeper of the Year for the seventh straight year – both incredible achievements.
The evening concluded with the prestigious 59club Flag Designations, recognising clubs and resorts that excel in both customer experience and the facilities they offer their members and guests.
Beyond the UK and Ireland, 59club has already celebrated service excellence in the USA, Canada, and the Middle East & Africa, with Europe, Asia, and Australia set to announce their winners in the coming months. This further reinforces 59club’s global commitment to raising customer service standards in the golf, leisure, and hospitality industries.
The highlight of this year’s awards will see a selection of regional winners invited to represent their club and country at 59club’s inaugural Global Awards, taking place later this summer at the world-renowned Belfry Hotel & Resort in the UK.
With another successful year in the books, the 59club UK and Ireland Service Excellence Awards once again showcased the best in the industry, setting a high standard for the future.
