Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled, enthusiastic, and ambitious First Assistant Greenkeeper to join our dedicated greenkeeping team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is ready to take the next step in their turf management career within a forward-thinking and supportive organisation. As First Assistant Greenkeeper, you will work closely with the Deputy Course Manager and Course Manager to maintain and enhance the golf course to the highest standard, ensuring excellent playing conditions and contributing to the club's reputation for quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the day-to-day management and maintenance of the golf course and practice areas
- Lead and supervise the team in the absence of the Deputy and Course Manager
- Operate and maintain turf care equipment safely and efficiently
- Carry out all turf maintenance tasks including mowing, aeration, topdressing, fertiliser and chemical applications
- Participate in course improvement projects, renovations, and landscape enhancements
- Monitor turf health and advise on agronomic practices
- Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, including COSHH and safe working practices
- Contribute to the training and mentoring of junior staff and apprentices
Person Specification Essential:
- NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a greenkeeping role
- Strong knowledge of turf care practices and machinery use
- Good understanding of health and safety in the workplace
- Flexible, reliable, and willing to work weekends and early mornings
- PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certificates
- Full UK driving licence. Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 or working towards higher qualifications
- Leadership experience or supervisory exposure
- Chainsaw and irrigation system knowledge
- Passion for golf and course presentation
