An Insight into our Club History:
Huddersfield Golf Club has been in existence since 1891 and is the Home of Yorkshire Golf since the Yorkshire Union was formed in 1894. Huddersfield, or Fixby, as it is fondly known, sits amongst the finest courses in Yorkshire. Sitting in the grounds of G2 listed Fixby Hall, the former family home of the Thornhill family, dating back to the 13th Century. The Hall itself was built in the 1700s. Notable course designers include Tom Dunn, Alastair McKenzie, Sandy Herd and Donald Fowler. Sandy is himself an Open winner, a revered club professional in his youth. The course enjoys greens to a USGA standard following redevelopment in recent years. Currently, it sits as Yorkshire’s only DP Tour tournament venue, with the DP Tour Q School qualifying event hosted until 2027.
The clubhouse sits with pride in the impressive grounds and approach, admired by all who visit, and is revered by members. Huddersfield boasts a strong and inclusive membership, featuring some of the county’s best juniors, a ladies’ section among the largest in Yorkshire, supported by a broader membership that has enjoyed retention rates of over 95% for the last five years. It’s safe to say Fixby thrives on its active and progressive membership. We continue to deliver a first-class golfing and social experience for members, guests, and visitors alike.
