Irrigation Technician

Alvarez & Marsal Golf (A&M Golf) is excited to announce the recruitment of an Irrigation Technician to join our agronomy team for a new world-class golf course development located just two miles south of St. Andrews, offering breathtaking panoramic views towards St. Andrews and across the sea to Carnoustie.

The St Andrews development will feature:

Role Overview

The Irrigation Technician will report to the Senior Agronomy Team and will play a key role in the installation, maintenance, and optimization of irrigation systems for A&M Fife’s golf courses. This role will ensure the successful grow-in of the golf courses and the long-term sustainability of playing conditions, while focusing on efficient water usage and resource conservation.

Key Responsibilities:
✔ Assist with the installation and construction of irrigation systems during the golf course development phases
✔ Work closely with the senior agronomy and irrigation design team, and contractors, ensuring the irrigation systems meet project specifications
✔ Manage and maintain the operation of irrigation systems, including sprinklers, valves, pipes, and control systems
✔ Identify and troubleshoot problems with the irrigation systems and provide solutions to the senior agronomy team
✔ Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and testing to optimize water distribution and usage
✔ Adjust sprinkler heads, arcs, nozzles, and water pressure as needed to maintain turf health
✔ Maintain excellent working order of all irrigation equipment and tools
✔ Monitor water usage using ET and moisture devices, adjusting irrigation schedules based on weather and turfgrass needs
✔ Ensure staff training on the safe operation of irrigation systems
✔ Assist with the production of annual operational budgets for irrigation repair and maintenance
✔ Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and communicate updates with the senior agronomy team
✔ Offer support in greenkeeping and grounds duties as required

Applicant Requirements:
✔ A minimum of 3 years’ experience at a senior Greenkeeping level
✔ NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Greenkeeping and Sports Turf Management
✔ PA1, PA2, and PA6 spraying certificates (not mandatory)
✔ Experience in golf course irrigation installation, construction, and development
✔ Strong knowledge of turfgrass management and golf course operations
✔ Proficient in IT and capable of managing multiple projects and contractors
✔ Experience in managing world-class golf course playing conditions (preferred)
✔ Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
✔ A proactive, confident individual with a passion for the game of golf
✔ A commitment to continual professional development
