Description:
Legal Counsel
Haggerty Jaques is exclusively retained to recruit a Legal & Governance Counsel to join the in-house legal team.
The Opportunity
We are looking to expand our in-house legal team further with the addition of a Legal & Governance Counsel to support and, at times, deputise for the Legal & Governance Director.
The work will be varied, covering commercial contracts, IP, data protection, property, litigation and media rights. With the support of the Legal & Governance Director where needed, you will take the lead on all high risk, high-value legal matters.
There will be regular interaction with key stakeholders within the organisation, who will look to you for strategic support and the provision of practical legal advice.
The role will also involve you in supervising and guiding more junior members of the legal team.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a UK qualified lawyer of around 2 to 5 years’ PQE or a chartered legal executive, with a good grounding in commercial contracts but ideally also experience of other areas of the law such as data protection, regulatory/compliance, or litigation.
An individual who is currently undertaking a broad in-house role would be particularly well equipped, although the team would also welcome applications from private practice lawyers who are willing and eager to advise across a broad range of areas. Experience within the sport, media or leisure sectors would be a particular advantage but is not essential.
The successful candidate must have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. The team operates a hybrid working arrangement of three days in the office and two days off-site.
Why Join?
In addition to being exposed to a wide range of interesting legal matters, you will be joining a friendly and collaborative team.
Named as one of the UK’s best employers in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024, England Golf has a strong emphasis on team culture and staff wellbeing.
Whilst the team works hard during office hours, there is an expectation that its lawyers will leave on time and enjoy a genuine work-life balance - which may or may not involve a round of golf.
There is a range of fantastic benefits on offer, including generous pension contributions, enhanced family policies, group monthly golf lessons, and discounted golf club membership.
For more information and a confidential discussion about this role, please contact Haggerty Jaques - Katie Haggerty and Amy Jaques - on 07740 662995 or 07974 131939.
Any references to PQE are provided purely as a guide and should not deter candidates with more or fewer years’ experience from applying. We welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate the requisite skills and expertise for this role.
Haggerty Jaques is exclusively retained by England Golf and therefore any direct or third-party agency applications or enquiries will be forwarded to Haggerty Jaques for consideration.
