Spaniard bounces back from early stumbles to secure two-shot win in New Delhi.

Spain’s Eugenio Lopez Chacarra earned his first DP World Tour title in style on Sunday, overcoming a difficult start to triumph at the Hero Indian Open by two strokes. The 25-year-old held the overnight lead going into the final round at the DLF Golf and Country Club near New Delhi, but faced immediate pressure after a double bogey on the opening hole and another dropped shot at the third.

Despite the early setback, Chacarra showed resilience and composure. He mounted a strong recovery with a flurry of birdies at the 6th, 9th, 11th, 12th, and 14th holes, regaining control of the leaderboard and building a four-shot cushion as the round progressed.

Chacarra eventually signed off with a four-under-par total, enough to stay two shots ahead of Japan’s Keita Nakajima, the defending champion, who finished in second place. Dutch golfer Joost Luiten secured third, finishing a further stroke behind.

There was a brief moment of concern on the 17th hole, when Chacarra found himself in a tricky position near the long grass after his second shot. However, he managed to minimise the damage with a bogey before completing the round with a steady par on the 18th, sealing a comfortable and emotional win.

Chacarra had entered the tournament on an invitation and made the most of the opportunity, delivering a composed performance under pressure. The win marks a significant milestone in his professional career and highlights his potential as a rising star on the international stage.

Elsewhere on the course, Italy’s Andrea Pavan added to the day’s excitement with a spectacular hole-in-one at the par-three 12th, finding the cup from 189 yards out.

The Hero Indian Open provided a fitting stage for a breakthrough moment, as Chacarra lifted the trophy to the cheers of the Delhi crowd. His victory adds further intrigue to the DP World Tour season, with another young talent making a mark among a competitive field.
