Gotterup edges McIlroy to win Genesis Scottish Open

July 14, 2025

Chris Gotterup claimed the biggest title of his career with a sensational victory at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, outduelling four-time major winner Rory McIlroy in a thrilling final round at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick.

Chris Gotterup earned the biggest victory of his career at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, clinching the title by two strokes at The Renaissance Club. The American posted a composed 4-under-par 66 in the final round to finish at 15-under 265, edging out Rory McIlroy and Marco Penge.

Despite a late bogey on the 15th, Gotterup responded immediately with a crucial birdie on the 16th to reaffirm his lead. McIlroy, the defending champion, charged with a late birdie on 17 but failed to grip the momentum down the stretch.

"This is awesome – I'm not going to be able to keep it together,"

Gotterup said after signing his card. "It's been a grind and to come through on a big stage like this is just unbelievable."

This event was co-sanctioned by both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, boosting the importance of the win for Gotterup. Besides the £1.5 million prize, he also secures his spot in next week's Open Championship at Royal Troon.
