Connor Syme wins first DP World Tour title at KLM Open
June 08, 2025
Playing his 182nd event on the tour, the 29-year-old Scotsman delivered a consistent final round at The International, finishing at 11 under par. Syme started the day with a two-shot lead over Lagergren, and the two battled closely throughout the round in a group that also included Italy’s Francesco Laporta.
Syme made an early move with a birdie at the second hole, while Lagergren responded with a long-range birdie at the seventh. However, the Swede dropped a shot at the ninth after a difficult greenside bunker recovery, allowing Syme to maintain control heading into the back nine.
Both players picked up birdies at the 13th, but Syme made a rare mistake on the 14th, recording his first bogey in 33 holes. Despite this, he quickly regrouped as Lagergren failed to capitalise on the following holes. A missed green and dropped shot by Lagergren at the 15th widened Syme’s lead once again.
Over the final three holes, Syme held steady with composed pars, including a difficult up-and-down on the 16th. Lagergren finished strongly with an eagle at the 18th, but it wasn’t enough to overturn Syme’s advantage. A controlled two-putt from long range on the final green was enough to seal the win for the Scot.
This victory makes Syme the 12th first-time winner on the DP World Tour this season. He joins a list of Scottish golfers who have lifted the KLM Open trophy, including Colin Montgomerie and Gordon Brand Jr.
Ewen Ferguson provided one of the day’s highlights with a hole-in-one at the par-3 seventh hole. He finished tied for third alongside fellow Scot Richie Ramsay and England’s Jack Senior. South Africa’s Jayden Schaper claimed solo third place after a solid round of 69.
Francesco Laporta dropped back after a bogey at the last, finishing at two under. He was joined by Nicolai von Dellingshausen, Jorge Campillo, Manuel Elvira, Andy Sullivan, and Dan Bradbury.
Dutch golfer Daan Huizing ended as the leading home player, finishing level-par for the tournament, one of only 25 players to do so or better.
