Martin Couvra claims first DP World Tour title with final-round masterclass in Türkiye
May 12, 2025
The 22-year-old, who graduated from the HotelPlanner Tour last season, had already made a strong impression in his debut year on the DP World Tour. With four top-ten finishes to his name this season, including a fifth-place finish at the Hainan Classic, Couvra arrived in Türkiye with form on his side. He left with silverware.
After sharing the lead at the halfway mark, a third-round 72 had seemingly derailed his challenge. But Couvra bounced back superbly on Sunday with a brilliant eight-under-par 64 to finish on 17 under, pulling clear of China's Li Haotong and Spain’s Jorge Campillo, who both finished two shots behind in a tie for second.
Couvra flew out of the blocks with four birdies in his first six holes, quickly erasing the overnight deficit. The early pace-setter, England’s Brandon Robinson Thompson, lost momentum with a bogey at the 6th, opening the door for others to capitalise.
Li looked set to mount a winning charge of his own, playing the front nine in just 30 shots, but a bogey at the 13th, after hitting a tree with his second shot, halted his progress. At the same time, Couvra caught fire again on the back nine, stringing together three consecutive birdies from the 11th onwards, displaying precision with his iron play and composure with the putter.
Another birdie at the 14th gave the Frenchman breathing space, and while Campillo surged up the leaderboard with five birdies in an eight-hole stretch, he was unable to convert his chance at the 17th and had to settle for third.
Robinson Thompson, who had held the lead after 54 holes, closed with a disappointing 72 to finish fourth on 13 under. Dutchman Joost Luiten and England’s Matthew Southgate shared fifth place, one shot further back.
Couvra’s triumph marks a significant milestone in a young career that continues to rise. Winning so early in his first full DP World Tour campaign will no doubt provide a huge boost in confidence as he looks to build on this breakthrough moment.
The French contingent on Tour has been growing in strength, and Couvra’s success adds another name to the list of emerging talents from the country. His calm under pressure, sharp course management, and clutch putting made the difference on a final day packed with quality golf.
With this win, Couvra now finds himself with greater playing opportunities and a surge of momentum heading into the heart of the season. The scenes that followed reflected not just personal joy but the collective celebration of a new talent arriving on the global stage.
