CLUB OPERATIONS MANAGER OPPORTUNITY AT ROYAL WIMBLEDON GOLF CLUB

ROYAL WIMBLEDON GOLF CLUB BY THE NUMBERS
- Membership: approximately 1200 in all categories
- Joining Fee: Dependent on category but a multiple of the annual subscription
- Annual Subscriptions £: 3,500
- Membership application process: Must be introduced and seconded by existing members or apply through an associate programme
- Member application lead time – approximately 3 to 4 years

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Efficiently coordinate and administer all club competitions, matches, and handicap updates, including posting notices, managing draws, and overseeing on-the-day competition operations. This will be supervised by the Assistant General Manager.
- Manage society and member group bookings within the parameters set by the main committee, including enquiries, reservations, tee time allocation, catering arrangements, and subsequent correspondence. Ensure all communication is accurate, club requirements are met prior to events, and organisers and participants are welcomed on the day. Assistance with scoring may also be required.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the club’s reciprocity agreements with Royal Clubs worldwide, the Merton Residents playing programme, and other visitor bookings, providing support as needed.
- Support the Assistant General Manager in managing and creating the annual club diary, liaising with members, reciprocals, societies, and visitors regarding golf, bridge, meetings, functions, and other events. Ensure all time-sensitive actions are completed or escalated to the General Manager when required.
- Handle member and general enquiries in person or by telephone, acting as a first point of contact and referring queries to the Assistant General Manager when appropriate.
- Attend sub-committee meetings from an advisory or educational perspective and act as minute taker in the absence of the Assistant General Manager.
- Maintain accurate records and files necessary for the smooth running of the club.
- Share responsibility for telephone answering and mail distribution with the Personal Assistant to the Secretariat.
- Take a lead role in the club’s sustainability projects and initiatives, supporting compliance and accreditation related to the club’s GEO certification.
- Undertake secretarial and other duties as reasonably requested by the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or Office Bearers of the club.
- Support other club managers with administrative tasks, including Rota management, ordering, leave coordination, and related duties.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have to demonstrate a proven ability with standard administration software and be proficient in the following:
- Experience working in a private members’ golf club, hospitality, or similar high-service environment.
- Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently.
- Proficiency with standard office software and club management systems, including diary and booking management.
- Ability to coordinate and lead competitions, matches, and events independently, demonstrating initiative and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the diplomacy to interact effectively with members, visitors, and colleagues in a high-standard environment.
- Capability to work calmly and professionally in a busy, high-pressure environment.
- Strong planning and scheduling skills to ensure efficient use of time and resources.
- Understanding of golf operations, club etiquette, and private club culture.
- Experience supporting sustainability initiatives or operational projects is desirable.
- Ability to collaborate with management teams across departments while reporting effectively to the Assistant General Manager.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing priorities and support other managers as required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Club offers a share in the staff long service fund, which is distributed annually after a qualifying period, inclusion in the monthly staff gratuities, a 10% of base salary pension fund contribution, industry education support, and meals on duty.
