Dominant Team USA clinches 10th straight Presidents Cup triumph
September 30, 2024
The decisive moment came when Keegan Bradley defeated South Korea’s Kim Si-woo 1-up, clinching the trophy for the Americans. This victory pushed the overall series score to 13-1-1 in favour of the United States, with the Internationals' sole win coming in 1998.
Throughout the tournament, the US team proved their ability to deliver under pressure, particularly on the back nine, where they secured crucial points late in matches. The Internationals fought hard, taking seven matches to the final hole, but were unable to turn the tide.
Heading into the singles matches on the final day, the Americans needed only 4.5 points to seal the win. Strong performances from Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, and Patrick Cantlay, along with a half-point tie from Sam Burns, paved the way for Bradley’s clinching point.
Bradley, who last competed in a team event for the US at the 2014 Ryder Cup, overcame some nervy moments but ultimately prevailed as Kim’s birdie attempt missed on the 18th hole.
Xander Schauffele capped off an impressive week, finishing with a 4-1 record, while Patrick Cantlay’s 3&1 victory over Canada’s Taylor Pendrith brought the Americans to the brink of victory.
Despite the Internationals putting up a valiant effort, with standout performances from players like Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and Canada’s Corey Conners, the depth and consistency of the US squad proved too much to overcome.
With another Presidents Cup win, the United States continues to affirm their dominance in this biennial competition.
