John Parry Triumphs with spectacular 64 to claim Mauritius Open title

December 22, 2024

John Parry proudly lifted the Mauritius Open trophy after a remarkable performance, ending a 14-year journey back to victory on the DP World Tour.

The English golfer, who began the final round five shots off the pace, delivered an impressive eight-under-par 64. His round included a chip-in eagle, seven birdies, and just one bogey, taking him to a 14-under total and securing a two-stroke win over South Africans Dylan Naidoo and Christo Lamprecht.

Ireland’s Gary Hurley finished in a tie for 42nd after a level-par 72, leaving him one-under overall.

A Triumphant Return to the Top
The victory concluded an outstanding year for Parry, who had already claimed three Challenge Tour titles in 2024. This win marked his first DP World Tour triumph since the Vivendi Cup in 2010, adding a second title to his career achievements.

In addition to the trophy, Parry earned a $200,000 prize (around €191,000) and a place in prestigious events later in the DP World Tour season, finishing as the leader of the Opening Swing rankings.

After years of struggling with form and contemplating his future in golf, Parry’s determination and perseverance have paid off, positioning him for exciting opportunities ahead.

Turning Point on the Back Nine
Parry’s final round started steadily, with three birdies and a bogey on the front nine for an outward score of 34. However, the momentum shifted dramatically on the back nine.

A chip-in eagle at the 12th hole brought him within one shot of the lead, energizing his performance. He followed with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th and claimed the outright lead with a precise eight-foot putt on the 16th.

A stellar tee shot on the 17th set up another birdie opportunity, though he narrowly missed the putt. Undeterred, Parry closed his round with a birdie on the 18th, securing a comfortable two-shot margin and sealing his long-awaited victory.

Memorable Eagle Sparks Momentum
The chip-in eagle on the 12th hole was a pivotal moment in Parry’s round, providing the spark needed to elevate his performance. The remainder of his back nine showcased consistent, precise play, enabling him to close out the tournament with a dominant finish.

This win not only represents a significant personal achievement for Parry but also underscores his resurgence as a force in professional golf. With renewed confidence and a major title under his belt, the future looks bright for the 38-year-old.
