Laurie Canter Claims Bahrain Championship in Play-Off Thriller
February 02, 2025
The world No. 89 secured the win with a birdie on the first extra hole, while both Larrazabal and Brown failed to make par. It marks a return to success for Canter, who rejoined the European Tour after a stint on the breakaway LIV Golf circuit. His previous title came at the European Open in June last year.
For Larrazabal, ranked No. 311, it was a heartbreaking finish. The Spaniard had a chance to seal his 10th DP World Tour win with a two-putt from 35 feet on the 18th green. However, he left his first putt six feet short and pushed his par attempt wide, dropping him into the play-off.
Canter shot a final-round 69, while Larrazabal and Brown both carded 70s. The trio finished at 14 under par, one shot ahead of David Puig (64), Richie Ramsay (68), Ivan Cantero (69), and Martin Couvra (70).
