Matsuyama shatters records to win the Sentry at Kapalua

January 06, 2025

Hideki Matsuyama has begun 2025 with a record-breaking victory at The Sentry in Hawaii, finishing 35 under par. The world number six delivered a commanding performance to claim his 11th PGA Tour title and set a new standard for the season ahead.

Hideki Matsuyama has shattered records and started the year with a historic win at The Sentry, finishing at an astonishing 35 under par. His performance broke Cameron Smith’s previous PGA Tour 72-hole scoring record of 34 under, set at the same event in 2022.

Matsuyama’s rounds of 65, 65, 62, and 65 on Kapalua’s Plantation Course were nothing short of flawless, securing a three-shot victory over Collin Morikawa. A final birdie on the 18th, followed by a rare fist pump, capped off a week of dominance from the 2021 Masters champion.

This victory is Matsuyama’s 11th PGA Tour title and his third win in the last 10 months. Along the way, he set another record with 35 birdies or better across the tournament, surpassing previous marks held by Smith and Sungjae Im.

South Korea’s Sungjae Im claimed third place with a closing 62, while Australians Cam Davis and Adam Scott fell short in the final round, finishing outside the top 10. Davis tied for 13th, with Scott a further shot back.

Matsuyama’s red-hot start to 2025 establishes him as a player to watch this season, reaffirming his place among the world’s golfing elite.
