Rory McIlroy wins 2025 Amgen Irish Open after playoff drama at The K Club

September 07, 2025

Rory McIlroy delighted home fans in County Kildare by claiming a dramatic playoff victory over Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren to win the 2025 Amgen Irish Open at The K Club. It is McIlroy’s second Irish Open title and his first win on Irish soil since 2016.

The 36-year-old entered the final round four shots back but produced a stunning closing 66. His eagle putt on the par-5 18th forced a playoff at 17-under-par, where he held his nerve to secure victory after Lagergren found the water with his approach on the third extra hole.

This win caps an incredible year for McIlroy, coming just months after he completed the career Grand Slam at Augusta. It provides a timely boost ahead of the BMW PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black later this autumn.
